Kumihimo workshop in english: An Introduction to Japanese Braiding
Atelier de Tressage warmly welcomes you to the historic Marais district for an immersive, hands-on introductory workshop in the ancient art of Kumihimo braiding. Historically used by Samurai to secure their armor and wrap their sword hilts, this traditional Japanese technique is celebrated worldwide for its structural elegance. To accommodate our international community, please note that all our workshops are conducted exclusively in English.
Our intimate sessions take place in the charming setting of the Les Petits Pots d’Alice boutique, located just a few steps from our main production workshop. During this creative experience, you will dive deep into the fascinating mechanics of Kumihimo. Under the patient guidance of our passionate trainers—whose mission is to preserve and pass on this rare, exceptional craftsmanship—you will learn how to set up and weave on an authentic wooden marudai loom, mastering the rhythmic coordination of the bobbins.
